mission
Books
We are an inclusive bookstore in metro Detroit and take pride in being able to source books from any origin and author. We believe in the power of literacy in our family and in our community. Let us know if you are looking for a unique title and we will help track it down. Shop online at our Bookshop.org storefront, or stop in and say hi.
Crafts
Whether you are a novice crocheter or a professional artist, we welcome all creatives to our space. Curated selections of craft supplies are available in our shop to help fuel your creative endeavors. If you are looking for a quiet, cozy place to work on your projects, we’ve got you covered.
Community
Togetherness is at the heart of our store. Let the stories bring you in, but stay for the friendships you’ll discover along the way. At Ash & Edan you are never just a customer, you are part of our community. Come for the books and crafts, but stay for each other.
our story
The name Ash & Edan comes from the last letters of the children in my family. In Irish/Gaelic, Edan means “little fire”, a meaning that feels especially fitting, because at the heart of Ash & Edan is a steady, burning desire to bring people back together.
We’re a community-centered independent bookstore in metro Detroit, offering both used and new books. Alongside our shelves, you’ll find thoughtfully chosen craft supplies such as needles, fabric, paints, paper, and skeins of yarn, including luxury yarn from local dyer Hawari Bazaar.
The world moves fast, often leaving little room for anything beyond work, meals, and sleep. Ash & Edan is meant to be a place to slow down—to browse, to linger, to enjoy a cup of coffee from one of our featured vendors, or perhaps even finish that craft project we all swear we’ll get to someday ;)
We’re committed to being a welcoming community space for everyone. While you’re here, explore our local author spotlights and discover books from both familiar names and those you may be encountering for the first time. Our hope is that everyone who walks through our doors can see a bit of themselves reflected in the stories we share.
Be sure to check our events calendar for book-centered gatherings—author signings, book clubs, and more—as well as workshops and meetups focused on cozy crafts and analog adventures.
Whether you’re a new visitor or a returning friend, we can’t wait to welcome you into the Ash & Edan family.
Samah Saidi, Owner & Founder
Hello! My name is Samah Saidi and I am the owner and founder of Ash & Edan. I was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan and I am the proud mother of two daughters and a son. I have been a certified speech language pathologist for nearly 20 years, with experience working with toddlers, children and young adults with communication needs. I have always been a reader and lover of books and stories.
From Goosebumps and The Babysitter’s Club in elementary school to a renewed love of all things fantasy, books have added joy and adventure to my life. And I hope to bring this same love of reading to all who walk through the doors of Ash & Edan. When I’m not reading, you can find me cooking for friends and family, immersing myself in a new craft, going on walks or planning grand trips that I may or may not actually take ;)
